Greenshoe

What is a green shoe?

Agreement that allows the underwriting banks in an initial public offering to allocate more shares to the prospective buyers than originally intended. In this way, the underwriting banks can stabilize the share price in the event of an oversubscribed offer by increasing the number of shares on offer.
